There are many castles in the world and have you ever visited them ? In japan, there are also beautiful castles.  Japan used to have around Twenty thousand  castles in the Edo period, but now the number of castles we can observe directly are just 200 castles. This time, we show you the most popular Japanese castles.  We hope you visit there someday !

1.姫路城(Himeji Castle)

■Address: 〒670-0012 兵庫県姫路市本町68 (68 Honmachi Himeji-shi, Hyogo)

Himeji Castle was built in 1609.  Because the color of the walls are white, it’s called “egret castle”.  It is Hirayamajiro, which means it stands on a hill, so you can see it from all over the city.  Also it has never gone through a war since it was built and the fact is very rare in comparison to other castles.

2. 松本城 (Matsumoto Castle)

■Address: 〒390-0873 長野県松本市丸の内4-1 (4-1 Marunouchi Matsumoto-shi, Nagano)
■URL: https://www.matsumoto-castle.jp/lang/eng/info

Matsumoto Castle was built in 1504.  It is the oldest existing castle with a 5 story keep in Japan, so Matsumoto Castle has become a National Treasure as the oldest extant five structure/six story castle in Japan.  Matsumoto Castle is  a symbol for citizen and loved by everyone forever.

3. 熊本城 (Kumamoto Castle)

■Address: 〒860-0002 熊本県熊本市中央区本丸1-1 (1-1 Honmaru Chuo Ward, Kumamoto-shi, Kumamoto)
■URL: https://castle.kumamoto-guide.jp/en/

Kumamoto Castle was built in 1601, but the main castle tower that we see today is a reconstruction, which was first competed in 1960.  Kumamoto castle collapsed partially due to the Kumamoto earthquick in 2016, so now it has been repaired.  We hope we can see the completed castle in  the near future.
