While you are staying Japan, you may get some mails which are  written entirely in Japanese from your mailbox, and we understand you are confused about that.  Most of mails are just advertisement so you can dispose them away, but you may get an important mails sometimes and in that case we’d like you to send us the photo to know about the contents. This time we introduce you mails which we often get questions by foreign customers so hope this article helps you when you face the opportunity someday.

居住確認のお伺い(Paper for confirmation your stay)

This is a confirmation about your stay.  It is posted to your mailbox in that case the post office get a mail but they can’t confirm that you surely live the room or not.  In Japan, we submit a certification to post office before our own address change for house-moving, but it is difficult to understand for foreigner, so this paper is often arrived to you.  (※We recommend you to submit a certification to post office if you don’t want to receive this document and you can get the certification paper in nearest post office.) On this paper, there are your name, address, date which post staff posted this paper to your mail box and one more date under your name like picture. You need to fill out your information and post it by the deadline(*Aug 27th), otherwise the mail will back to sender and you can’t receive it.

How should you do ?
You can find 2 things 【1. 居住している】【2.居住していない】on this paper and please circle 【1. 居住している】by pen.   This word【居住している】means you surely live in the room and 【居住していない】means you don’t live in the room. If you live yourself, the procedure has been done and you can post it to the nearest red mailbox.  After post office get your filled paper, each mail will be arrived successfully.  However, you need to fill out more information if you live with another person.

In that case you stay with another person

If you have housemate, you also need to fill out their name in the table and get their sign on 【印】.  By doing so, not only you but also another tenant will be able to receive the mail.  As I mentioned above, Please make sure to post the filled paper by deadline.  Not only this paper, we will be waiting for your contact  if you have any other questions about the mails which are written in Japanese.
