5 best Hidden Cherry Blossoms Spots in Tokyo

 

 

The Hanami season (cherry-blossom viewing) is coming. Spring time in Japan is one of the best times of the year. There are a lot of popular spots in Tokyo that occasionally be reviewed on the internet or magazine. Therefore, so many people go there!

But where best to make the most of the phenomenon of cherry-blossom?

Well, it depends who you ask. Everybody tends to have their own favorite spot

For me, it does not have to be the famous place or on “top ten” list, it must be a place that I can enjoy cherry blossom viewing slowly, not crowded, easy to take some just-only-cherry blossom photos.

1. 六義園(Rikugien)

Rikugien (六義園) is often considered Tokyo’s most beautiful Japanese landscape garden, established in 1702. The park entertains us with different colors and sceneries depending on the season. In spring, Shidarezakura (枝垂桜) is a must-see here.

9:00am~9:00pm (entrance until 8:30pm) during special illumination period.

2. 石神井川の桜並木 (Cherry blossom in Shakujii River)

On both sides of the Shakujii River that flows north of Nakaitabashi Station, various kinds of cherry blossoms are blooming in spring, becoming a super beautiful cherry blossom landmark. It is about 2 km from Futaba-cho to Kaga near Nakaitabashi Station.

Access: 4 min. walk from Shinitabashi Station on Mita line

5 min. walk from Nakaitabashi Station on Tobu-Tojo line

 

3. 外濠公園 (Sotobori Garden)

Sotobori Garden is located along the Ushigome moat, Shin-Mitsuke moat, and Ichigaya moat. It spreads over 2 km from JR Iidabashi Station to Ichigaya Station and Yotsuya Station.

There are about 240 cherry trees, including Someiyoshino and Yamazakura in Sotobori Garden. Just by rising one step further from the roadway, you can find the promenade where you can enjoy the cherry blossom viewing cherry blossoms while walking slowly. Not only in the full bloom season, you can enjoy a different beautiful scenery during the period after the cherry blossom fall.

4. 谷中霊園 (Yanakarei Garden)

There are cherry blossoms in various places in Yanaka, especially the Yanaka Garden is famous as a cherry blossom spot. The central road which continues from the side of Tennoji is also called “Sakura Dori”, when the cherry blossoms are like a tunnel of cherry blossoms, many people wander around while watching cherry blossoms even on weekdays.

5. 東大駒場キャンパス (Tokyo University, Komaba Campus)

At Tokyo University Campus in Komaba, it seems that cherry blossoms can be seen quietly. Because people often go to the nearby Meguro River and Yoyogi Park to see the cherry blossom so despite the university being popular, not many people visit it. Even in the published pictures, it seems that there are not many people. Here you can enjoy a beautiful picnic with family as you enjoy the cherry blossoms.
